This site is best viewed in 1024x768 pixels.

NOTE: This Web site is designed to be viewed in Microsoft's Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU DOWNLOAD FILES FROM THIS WEB SITE AND SAVE IT TO A TEMPORARY DIRECTORY (EXAMPLE: C:\DOWNLOADS), AND THEN RUN THE FILE FROM THAT DIRECTORY. OPENING THE FILE AND RUNNING IT FROM THE INTERNET IS NOT ADVISED, AS THE FILE CAN BE DAMAGED OR CORRUPTED DURING THE DOWNLOAD/RUN PROCESS.

I AM NOW ABLE TO OFFER DOWNLOADS FROM THIS SITE FOR THE WINDOWS VISTA 64-BIT (X64)  OPERATING SYSTEM. IF YOU ARE RUNNING A 64-BIT (X64) OPERATING SYSTEM, PLEASE EMAIL ME. IF I GET ENOUGH REQUESTS, I WILL BEGIN POSTING 64-BIT VERSIONS (X64) OF THE COMBAT FLIGHT SIMULATOR DOWNLOADS FOUND ON THIS PAGE.

The BIGGEST difference that you will find between this Web site and others that offer downloads for the various flight simulations is that whenever possible I have attempted to create an "installation" program for the downloads...No more having to create folders, and then copying and/or moving files. The installation program does all of this for you AUTOMATICALLY. So, where possible, all you have to do is to simply double-click on the installation program and enjoy! I strongly encourage you to visit the Installation page to see how this program works before downloading any of the wonderful add-ons from this site.

NOTE: Downloads from this page are for Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1 ONLY, and should not be used in CFS2.

SEE OTHER AIRCRAFT EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE PLANE OR IT'S TEXTURES

There is a setting in CFS1 that will allow you to "see" other pilot's planes and the plane's textures even if you don't have that particular plane. Here's what you do:

  1. Open the Combatfs.cfg file in Notepad.

  2. Scroll down to the [MULTIPLAYER] section.

  3. Change the "0" after the equals (=) sign in the following lines to a "1" as shown below:

    ALLOW_PLANE_MODEL_SEND=1

    ALLOW_PLANE_MODEL_RECEIVE=1

    ALLOW_TEXTURE_SEND=1

    ALLOW_TEXTURE_RECEIVE=1

  4. Save the changes to the Combatfs.cfg file.

  5. Make the file "Read Only" so CFS1 can't change it back.

A very special thanks to BadJointscfs2 for step #5!

This is great for "squad" meets, as everybody will be able to "see" everybody else's plane and textures. NOTE: In order for this to work, especially in "multiplayer" mode on the Zone, EVERYBODY in the game must have these lines changed

GETTING RID OF THE "UNKNOWN SOLDIER" TAG WHEN ENTERING VIA IP

I recently came across a way to get rid of the infamous "Unknown Soldier" handle that CFS1 and CFS2 create when you come into a game via TCP/IP instead of through the MSN Gaming Zone. It involves simply adding your handle to the CFS1 and CFS2 configuration file. Here's how to have your zone handle appear whenever you enter via TCP/IP:

  1. Open the CombatFS.cfg file using Notepad.

  2. Scroll down to the [MULTIPLAYER] section.

  3. Look for the line: SP_DISPLAY_CHEAT_WARNINGS=0.

  4. Scroll to the end of the line and press Enter on the keyboard to add a blank line after this section.

  5. Type in the following, typing your actual Zone handle: SP_PLAYER_NAME=Your Zone Handle

  6. Save the changes to the CombatFS.cfg file.

That's it...From now on, even if you enter a game through the IP address, you will always have your actual Zone handle instead of "Unknown Soldier"...Click here to see a photo of how the CombatFS.cfg file should look like.

CFS1 Scaled Model Files (33KB). This program essentially sets the scaling value for the CFS1 stock aircraft Model files. It is designed as one solution to the small sized nature of add-on aircraft in CFS1. This will make it MUCH easier to spot the enemy aircraft in Quick Combat. The program is designed to do this only for the FLYABLE aircraft in CFS1, and will allow you to "switch" to the aircraft with the new model files and then switch back to the "stock" model files. By: AB_Lt_Cmd_Riker.

Enhanced Damage Profiles (111KB). These damage profiles are designed to enhance the visual effects of quick combat in CFS1 and were inspired by the great effects found in CFS2. They were designed specifically for the stock aircraft in the original game. They will provide enhanced smoke and fire effects, but will not prematurely bring down the plane. This installation program will make a backup of ALL of the original damage profiles replaced by the new updated ones (Example: B17g.dp.org). By: C. M. Krashunbern. NOTE: It is strongly recommended that you read the installation file before installing these new .dp files. Review the installation steps by clicking here.

NOTE: I have heard in some (but not all) instances where installing these updated damage profiles will keep you from being able to use your aircraft in a Restricted Game on the MSN Gaming Zone. If this happens, simply delete the new damage profile and .cdp file and use the original that the installation program creates for you (Example: B17g.dp.org).
